Muhlenbergia capillaris
Fresh this week. Last restocked Apr 13.
Muhly grass (Muhlenbergia capillaris) is a native North American warm-season bunch grass renowned for its spectacular clouds of airy, pink-to-magenta flower plumes that appear in fall. The fine-textured, arching foliage forms dense mounds that provide year-round textural interest in the landscape. Starting at $6.95.
Good planting window.
Handles summer heat well once established.
Bloom season.
Retains foliage through winter.
Plant muhly grass in full sun for best performance and the most spectacular fall bloom display; it will tolerate very light shade but flowers are reduced.
Water regularly until established (first growing season), then muhly grass is highly drought-tolerant and rarely needs supplemental irrigation in NE Florida's summer rainfall pattern.
Thrives in sandy, well-drained Florida soils with minimal to no fertilization; heavy feeding produces floppy foliage and reduces drought tolerance.
