Nicotiana alata
Fresh this week. Last restocked Jun 25.
Jasmine tobacco (Nicotiana alata) is a fragrant, fast-growing annual grown for its clusters of tubular, star-shaped flowers in white, pink, red, and lime green that open in the evening to release a sweet jasmine-like scent. In NE Florida it excels as a fall-planted cool-season annual, blooming from late winter through spring; it attracts hummingbirds and hawkmoths. Starting at $2.99.
Prefers full sun to partial shade; in NE Florida, afternoon shade helps extend the bloom season into the warmer months. Plant in fall for best winter-to-spring performance, as plants decline in the peak summer heat.
Keep soil consistently moist but well-drained; water regularly during dry spells. Avoid overhead watering to reduce risk of fungal disease on the large, sticky leaves.
Plant in fertile, moist, well-drained soil amended with compost. Feed every 4–6 weeks during the growing season with a balanced water-soluble fertilizer to sustain vigorous blooming.
