Cupressus sempervirens
Fresh this week. Last restocked Jun 15.
Italian Cypress (Cupressus sempervirens) is a stately, narrow evergreen conifer native to the eastern Mediterranean and western Asia, forming a tight, columnar silhouette of dense, dark green scale-like foliage. Long associated with Mediterranean gardens and cemeteries, it is widely planted as an accent, screen, and architectural element in formal and informal landscapes. Starting at $69.95.
Good planting window.
Handles summer heat well once established.
Ideal planting window.
Retains foliage through winter. Can be planted in mild winter periods.
Plant in full sun — Italian Cypress requires at least 6 hours of direct sun for dense, upright growth. In NE Florida it performs well in open sites; do not crowd or shade, as poor air circulation increases mite and disease pressure.
Drought-tolerant once established; water periodically during the establishment phase (first 1–2 years). In NE Florida's rainy season, ensure excellent drainage — root rot occurs in poorly drained sites. Mature trees need little to no supplemental irrigation.
Adaptable to a wide range of well-drained soils including NE Florida's sandy soils. Avoid heavy clay or wet sites. Fertilize sparingly at planting; established trees rarely need supplemental feeding. Do not prune — removing branches leaves permanent bare spots.
