Ceratostigma plumbaginoides
Fresh this week. Last restocked Jun 15.
Hardy Plumbago (Ceratostigma plumbaginoides) is a low, spreading deciduous groundcover that carries true cobalt-blue flowers from late summer into fall, when its foliage turns bronze-red. Unlike the tender, shrubby Cape plumbago, this is a tough, cold-hardy perennial that dies back in winter and returns to knit together as a weed-smothering carpet. Starting at $19.95.
Best flowering and fall color come in full sun, though it takes part shade. It spreads by rhizomes to form a dense mat.
Water regularly to establish, then it is moderately drought tolerant. It prefers soil that is not waterlogged, especially in winter dormancy.
Adapts to most well-drained soils. Cut back the dead stems in late winter before new growth, which emerges late in spring.
