Symphyotrichum elliottii
Fresh this week. Last restocked Jun 25.
Elliott's Aster (Symphyotrichum elliottii) is a Florida native herbaceous perennial that lights up the fall garden with masses of small lavender-pink daisy-like flowers beloved by bees and butterflies. It thrives in moist, sunny spots across NE Florida and dies back to the ground each winter, returning vigorously each spring. Starting at $9.95.
Plant Elliott's Aster in full sun for best flowering; it tolerates partial shade but blooms most prolifically in bright, open conditions. In NE Florida's intense summer heat, a site with afternoon sun and good air circulation is ideal.
Elliott's Aster naturally colonizes moist flatwoods and ditches, so keep soil consistently moist, especially during establishment. Once rooted in, it tolerates Florida's summer rains well but may need supplemental irrigation during dry spells in sandy soils.
Grows well in Florida's sandy, loam, or clay soils with slightly acidic to neutral pH. Tolerates poor soils; amend with compost at planting for best results. A light balanced fertilizer in spring supports growth, but avoid over-fertilizing, which can reduce flowering.
