Retains foliage through winter.
Grow dwarf poinciana in full sun for best flowering; it tolerates light afternoon shade but blooms most heavily with 6 or more hours of direct sun daily.
Once established, dwarf poinciana is highly drought-tolerant and requires little supplemental irrigation in NE Florida; water deeply but infrequently during prolonged dry spells and avoid wet, poorly drained sites to prevent mushroom root rot.
Tolerates a wide range of well-drained soils including sandy and alkaline; apply a balanced slow-release fertilizer in spring to encourage vigorous blooming, and tip-prune branch ends during the growing season to promote a fuller form.
