Quercus minima
Fresh this week. Last restocked Mar 11.
Dwarf Live Oak (Quercus minima) is a low-growing, rhizomatous native shrub oak found in pine flatwoods and sandhills throughout the southeastern United States. It spreads by underground runners to form dense thickets of small, leathery evergreen leaves and produces tiny acorns that support wildlife. Starting at $24.95.
Dwarf Live Oak thrives in full sun to part shade and is extremely adaptable to NE Florida's conditions. Full sun promotes the densest, most compact habit; it also grows naturally in the partial shade of pine flatwoods and sandhills without issue.
Highly drought tolerant once established in NE Florida's sandy soils — supplemental watering is rarely needed after the first season. Water regularly during the establishment period (first 1–2 years); thereafter, rely on natural rainfall except during extended droughts.
Thrives in lean, dry, acidic sandy soils typical of NE Florida's pine flatwoods and sandhills — no soil amendment or fertilizer needed in most landscape situations. Avoid rich, moist soils that encourage rank growth; this plant excels in low-input, naturalistic plantings where it spreads by rhizomes to form wildlife-supporting thickets.
