Berlandiera lyrata
Fresh this week. Last restocked Jun 25.
Chocolate Daisy (Berlandiera lyrata) is a drought-hardy perennial wildflower native to the southwestern U.S., grown for its bright yellow daisy flowers with dark maroon centers and a distinctive chocolate-cocoa fragrance most pronounced in the morning. It thrives in full sun with excellent drainage, is highly attractive to bees and butterflies, and performs best in spring and fall in NE Florida's zone 9b. Starting at $4.69.
Requires full sun — at least 6–8 hours of direct sunlight daily. Chocolate Daisy blooms poorly in shade and is highly susceptible to root rot in poorly lit, wet sites. Excellent choice for hot, sunny spots in NE Florida.
Extremely drought-tolerant once established. Water sparingly; allow soil to dry between waterings. Overwatering or waterlogged soil — especially during Florida's summer rainy season — is the primary cause of plant failure.
Thrives in lean, sandy, or rocky well-drained soil. Avoid heavy clay or rich amended soils that retain moisture. Little to no fertilizer needed; excess nutrients promote leggy growth with fewer blooms.
