Forked Bluecurls (Trichostema dichotomum) is a Florida native annual of the mint family producing aromatic, narrow leaves and vivid blue-violet flowers with dramatically curled stamens from summer through fall. Plant in full sun; Forked Bluecurls is a native of dry, open, sunny Florida habitats and will not thrive in shade. Ideal for NE Florida's sun-drenched sandy sites.
Very drought-tolerant once established in sandy soil; minimal to no supplemental irrigation needed in NE Florida. Overwatering in heavy soil is the primary cause of failure.
Thrives in poor, dry, well-drained sandy soils — the leaner the better. Do not fertilize; rich soil encourages rank growth at the expense of flowers. Excellent for Florida's native sandhill plantings.
