Helianthus
Fresh this week. Last restocked Jun 25.
Sunflowers (Helianthus spp.) encompass annual and native perennial species suited to NE Florida. Annual sunflowers (H. annuus) produce bold blooms in summer, while native perennials such as swamp sunflower (H. angustifolius) and beach sunflower (H. debilis) bloom summer through fall and serve as top pollinator and wildlife plants. All thrive in full sun with well-drained soil. Starting at $7.95.

Sunflowers require full sun — at least 6–8 hours of direct sunlight daily. In NE Florida, site in full exposure; adequate sun is the single most important factor for strong stems and prolific blooming.
Water regularly to keep soil evenly moist during establishment and active growth. Native perennial species such as swamp sunflower (H. angustifolius) tolerate wet periods; annual types (H. annuus) prefer well-drained, moderately moist soil and decline in waterlogged conditions.
Sunflowers perform well in NE Florida's sandy, well-drained soils with a pH of 5.5–6.5. Annual types benefit from a balanced fertilizer at planting; native perennial species rarely require supplemental feeding once established in Florida landscapes.
