Clinopodium ashei
Fresh this week. Last restocked Mar 11.
Ashe's calamint (Clinopodium ashei) is a state-threatened, short-lived native perennial shrub of Florida's dry scrub and sandhill habitats in central peninsular Florida, producing small, aromatic, basil-scented foliage and delicate pale lavender flowers. It is the primary pollen source for the rare blue calamintha bee and an important pollinator plant for native bee conservation in NE Florida landscapes. Starting at $7.95.
Requires full sun to light partial shade in well-drained scrub or sandhill conditions; performs best in NE Florida with at least 6 hours of direct sun and no competition from taller plants.
Highly drought tolerant once established in well-drained sandy soil; little to no supplemental irrigation needed in NE Florida. Overwatering or heavy soils will quickly kill this plant.
Requires very dry, acidic, nutrient-poor sandy soil; avoid clay, organic-rich, or moist soils. Do not fertilize — rich soil conditions promote weedy competition and reduce plant longevity. Best suited to xeric scrub or sandhill garden settings.
