Ideal planting window.
Retains foliage through winter.
Tolerates full sun to partial shade in NE Florida; too much shade can invite scale insect problems, so a site with at least 4–6 hours of direct sun is preferred for best vigor and berry production.
Moderately drought tolerant once established; water regularly during the first growing season to encourage deep rooting. Supplement irrigation during extended dry spells; avoid prolonged wet or waterlogged conditions.
Grows in most well-drained soils including NE Florida's sandy loams, with little regard to pH. Apply a balanced slow-release fertilizer in spring; established clumps require minimal feeding.
