Asclepias verticillata
Fresh this week. Last restocked Mar 11.
Whorled Milkweed (Asclepias verticillata) is a delicate native milkweed with fine thread-like leaves arranged in whorls along slender stems, bearing small clusters of white flowers that attract butterflies and native pollinators. Starting at $9.95.
Whorled milkweed requires full sun for best growth and flowering in NE Florida. Plant in open, unshaded areas such as meadows, roadsides, or butterfly gardens.
Drought-tolerant once established in well-drained, sandy NE Florida soil. Water only during the first growing season to aid establishment; thereafter rely on natural rainfall. Excellent in dry, low-maintenance landscapes.
Thrives in lean, sandy, well-drained soils typical of NE Florida uplands — no fertilizer needed and rich soils promote excessive vegetative growth at the expense of flowers. Cut back to the ground in late fall after frost; new growth emerges in spring.
