Hibiscus coccineus
Fresh this week. Last restocked Mar 11.
Scarlet Rosemallow (Hibiscus coccineus) is a native southeastern US perennial wildflower with deeply cut, palmate leaves that resemble those of cannabis and spectacular, large, five-petaled scarlet flowers up to 6 inches across. Native to freshwater wetlands and marshes from Georgia to Florida, it is one of the showiest native hibiscus species, blooming from early summer through fall. Its bold tropical appearance and affinity for wet soils make it ideal for pond margins, rain gardens, and wet borders. Starting at $7.95.

Thrives in consistently moist to wet soils and is ideal for pond edges, rain gardens, and wet borders in NE Florida. Tolerates some drying between waterings in landscape beds but peaks in performance with high moisture. Cut stems to the ground after frost; new growth emerges in mid-to-late spring.
Grows in a wide range of soils from sandy to clay as long as moisture is adequate. A light balanced fertilizer application in spring is sufficient. This native deciduous perennial dies back in winter and re-emerges reliably in NE Florida's zone 9b springs.
