Bloom season. Ideal planting window.
Retains foliage through winter. May need protection below 25°F.
Grow Cattleya orchids in bright filtered light (70–80% shade) under trees, shade cloth, or eaves — never in direct Florida midday sun, which burns leaves. Leaves should appear medium yellow-green when light levels are correct.
Allow the potting medium to dry between waterings, then water thoroughly. In NE Florida's humid climate, avoid letting orchids sit in standing water; mounted or basket-grown plants dry fastest and thrive outdoors.
Pot in a loose, fast-draining orchid bark mix; repot every 2 years as media breaks down. Fertilize with a diluted orchid fertilizer (30-10-10 at quarter-strength) during the growing season. Do not use softened water.
