Ipomoea multifida
Fresh this week. Last restocked Jun 25.
Cardinal climber (Ipomoea × multifida) is a fast-growing annual vine, a hybrid of cypress vine and scarlet morning glory, bearing masses of small scarlet tubular flowers on finely dissected, fern-like foliage all summer into fall. In NE Florida it thrives in full sun and climbs readily to 15 feet, making it an outstanding hummingbird attractor on trellises and fences. Starting at $2.99.
Plant in full sun (6–8 hours minimum) for best flowering. In NE Florida, a south or west exposure is ideal; insufficient sun produces weak vines with few blooms.
Water regularly to keep soil evenly moist — about 1 inch per week. NE Florida's summer rains often suffice; supplement during dry spells. Good drainage prevents root rot in humid conditions.
Grows well in NE Florida's sandy to loamy soils with good drainage. Avoid overly rich soil — excess fertility promotes foliage over flowers. A light balanced fertilizer at planting is sufficient; do not over-feed.
