Nephrolepis biserrata, macho fern, is a large tropical fern native to Florida, the Caribbean, and Central America, producing bold, arching fronds that can reach 3–4 feet or more in length. Its grand scale and lush, bright green foliage make it a dramatic choice for large containers, shaded borders, and tropical landscape accents. Starting at $14.95.

Macho fern grows best in partial to full shade; protect from direct afternoon sun in Northeast Florida, which can scorch fronds and dry the soil quickly.
Keep soil consistently moist — macho fern does not tolerate drought. Water deeply and regularly, especially during dry spells, and mulch heavily to retain moisture in Florida's sandy soils.
Plant in moist, humus-rich, well-drained acidic soil. Amend sandy Florida soil generously with compost; apply a light balanced or slow-release fertilizer monthly from spring through early fall.
